How has blogging changed me?
To answer that is the challenge of the day. When I first set out to blog I believe it was solely to fill the void that the dissipation of Myspace left. Yep, that’s right Myspace. Remember that? It was the social media platform before Facebook came and wiped it out. The reason why I clung on to my profile till the very last, graveyard days is because I liked how you could personalize your page with background templates, quotes, pictures and music. It was like a digital manifestation of everything you liked with a soundtrack. Who doesn’t think that kicks ass?
Unfortunately Myspace proved to have little appeal once every left, so I too packed my bags, closed my account and went to the land of Mark Zuckerberg. I got a little taste of html code and I went hungry, therefore a blog seemed to be the next logical step. I was also fascinated with being able to document our life in a realm that seemed forever visible, top of mind and close to heart….via the internet.
So how has this crazy, wild, sometimes-doesn’t-seem-worth-it creative hobby changed me? It has awoken in me my passion for graphic design, photography and writing. Something I constantly have to remind myself that I do for ME. While I don’t give it nearly as much attention as I think it is owed, this little corner of the internet is mine and a place where I can house my opinions, memories and successes. It challenges me to continue to grow and to push my creativity. It allows me to create something almost every day.
While it can often be a sense of stress, the gratification it gives me is more than enough to make up for the effort. Nothing ever worth having came easy right? Isn’t that what they say? After work, after dinner & dishes, after bottles and ironing, straightening up and a work-out…at the keyboard at midnight, listening to Spotify and plugging away at this here blog, is where you can fine me, it’s where I’m finding myself.
